ICS at Foundation Day 2023

Dr Emlyn Dodd, Lecturer in Classical Studies, represented the ICS and School of Advanced Study at the University of London’s Foundation Day event on 22 November 2023. This included a display of his research and work at the Villa of the Quintilii (published this year in the journal Antiquity) – an imperial site just outside Rome where a lavish and theatrical ancient wine production facility was unearthed in 2018. Digital visualisations illustrated what the winery may have once looked like to Foundation Day guests, who could then taste several ‘ancient style’ wines from Georgia, Spain and Italy made using techniques similar to those used in antiquity. Attendees included HRH the Princess Royal, Chancellor of the University of London, and Vice-Chancellor Professor Wendy Thompson CBE, pictured here in conversation with Emlyn about his work.
