We are very happy to advertise a fully-funded PhD studentship (with stipend) to be undertaken at the Institute of Classical Studies (School of Advanced Study, University of London) in partnership with the British School at Rome. This opportunity is open to both UK and international students and is made possible thanks to funding from the London Arts & Humanities Partnership (LAHP, AHRC) Collaborative Doctoral Award scheme.

Project title: Death in the Suburbs: developing a new interdisciplinary methodology at Falerii Novi to study ancient funerary landscapes

This doctoral project will systematically document and analyse the ancient funerary landscape of Falerii Novi in central Italy, spanning over 1000 years (ca. 500 BCE–700 CE). It aims to develop and apply an interdisciplinary approach to studying funerary landscapes, integrating archaeological, historical, computational and scientific analysis. Targeted doctoral training opportunities will be offered via partnership between the ICS and BSR, and the student will benefit from being situated within the broader Falerii Novi Project.

The supervisory team will be composed of: Emlyn Dodd (ICS, London), Corinna Riva (UCL), and Stephen Kay (BSR).

Please find more detail about the doctoral project, student requirements, and application details here, under ‘Death in the Suburbs’: https://www.lahp.ac.uk/prospective-students/collaborative-doctoral-awards-projects-available/
