2025 George Grote Prize in Ancient History

The ICS is delighted to announce the winner of the 2025 George Grote Prize in Ancient History: Max Bacon for his study on ‘Caesar and Triumviral Populism’.
The Grote prize committee members were especially impressed by this timely project, and in particular its use of a theoretical model derived from Laclau to analyse the populism of Caesar and immediate aftermath.
Max says: "It is an honour to be awarded the George Grote Prize (PGR) in Ancient History 2025. I thank the prize committee members for this award and for the kind words. It is an exciting moment in time for scholarly research on populisms within both the ancient and modern worlds: I am privileged to be able to share my contributions"
Congratulations Max!
