Starting from an analysis of the state of the art focused on the current Italian situation regarding digital resources for manuscript and printed literary heritage and their accessibility, it became clear that there was a need to find a possible solution to the issue of limited access to the digitized heritage. The project, focusing on direct collaboration with several significant national cultural institutions, aims to experiment with the inclusion of digital scholarly editions of classical texts designed for a non-specialist audience into the various programs for the enhancement and use of the digitized heritage of the involved institutions.


Through direct collaboration with GLAMs, several digital editions have been created using the EVT software (Edition Visualization Technology, http://evt.labcd.unipi.it). All the editions allow for the visualization of the digital facsimile with a dual level of transcription (diplomatic and interpretative), accompanied by an Italian translation of the text and lists of named entities. The institutions currently involved are the Museo Egizio in Turin, for which the digital edition of the most important papyrus in the museum’s Greek collection (P. Tor. Choachiti) has been created, and will be included on the TPOP portal as well as in the museum's exhibition path; the Biblioteca Estense Universitaria in Modena, for which the edition of Myrmichomiamachia by Natale Conti has been created and will be included in the Estense Digital Library portal; and the Biblioteca Reale in Turin, for which the edition of the manuscript Varia 75 has been created and included in the library's portal (https://mrereale.cultura.gov.it/evt/#/imgTxt?d=Varia75&p=pagina1&e=diplomatic&ce=interpretative).


This seminar presents my PhD project, which is part of the context of the national PhD in Heritage Science (38th cycle), funded by the PNRR and coordinated by the "La Sapienza" University of Rome.
