Cataloguing Open Access Classics Serials

Wednesday 29 March 2017

The Institute of Classical Studies is pleased to announce the appointment of Simona Stoyanova for one year as a new Research Fellow in Library and Information Science on the Cataloguing Open Access Classics Serials (COACS) project, funded by a development grant from the School of Advanced Study.

Simona is writing software to index open access journals and serials in classics and ancient history, working under the supervision of the Reader in Digital Classics, and in collaboration with the staff of the Combined Library, and colleagues at the Warburg Institute, Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (NYU) and the German Archaeological Institute. A metadata catalogue of the online journals, and the individual articles within them, will be made available for import by library catalogues, and the scripts will also be published as open source software, as the project aims to be a pilot for externally funded work to expand this indexing to other disciplines in the School and beyond, and to experiment with text mining, entity extraction, and other advanced research methods on the full text of any journals and articles that are licensed for such use.
